MABE FRATTI

<p>Guatemalan, Mexico-based musician Mabe Fratti returns to Prague after three years with two new albums and a band. This sentence alone should be enough of an invitation to the concert she will play on November 15 at NoD.</p> <p>On her debut EP Pies sobre la tierra, Mabe Fratti &quot;cast her spell&quot; with hypnotic compositions, while the first album Ser&aacute; que ahora podremos entendernos was dominated by meditative surfaces, over which she continued on to the more lucid landscapes of Se ve desde aqu&iacute;. Improvisation runs like a red thread through all of her recordings, and is the strongest motif of the singles so far, leading to the new album Sentir que no sabes, which benefits from a full band that, while neglecting the previously dominant cello, opens up new, unexplored avenues.</p> <p>The list of media outlets like NPR, The Wire, and Pitchfork singing Mabe Fratti&#39;s praises is growing steadily, and the young composer&#39;s talents are receiving attention from an expanding legion of fans. Just a few days before the Prague concert, Mabe Fratti will be curating part of the programme of the international music festival in Utrecht, the Netherlands - Le Guess Who? 2023. The premiere at the Atrium was intimate; NoD with a full band will be a very different experience.</p>

He came here to say goodbye to someone. Saul knows it&#39;s important to say goodbye to the dead, otherwise they become ghosts and their souls wander sadly around the world. He knows this because some of those souls visit him every day in his caravan.&nbsp;</p> <p>Red sand, burnt thistles, beer and one overfed iguana. A pioneer of serialism and composer with an unusually refined style in terms of tonality and harmony. His important&nbsp;Quartet for the End of Time,&nbsp;composed in 1941 in a prison camp in Silesian Zhořelec, is being performed as part of the 30th anniversary of the composer&rsquo;s death.</p>

S. Hundbiss & I. Pavlíčková & P. Kriššák: DAMAGE DECODING: Archeology of the Future

<p>The show takes the viewer through three chapters of <strong><em>Damage Decoding: Archeology of the Future</em></strong>. The exhibition reflects on what damage has been done or might still be awaiting us through artistic practices such as film, sculpture, and painting by the artists <strong>Sophie Hundbiss, Ivana Pavl&iacute;čkov&aacute;,&nbsp;Patrik Kri&scaron;&scaron;&aacute;k</strong>.<br /> Throughout the exhibition, this narration evolves in the space through a gradual light concept.</p> <p>You enter the show&nbsp;and see Sophie Hundbiss film Index of Lilith on a screen. It introduces the visitor to the idea of damage as both ancient and consistent in present topics.</p> <p>Ephemeras of the film lead the viewer to the center and second chapter of the exhibition. Installed here are ceramic plates by Ivana Pavl&iacute;čkov&aacute;, arranged in a set-up that references gamer aesthetics. The plates are similar to relics that depict an antiquitized gaming culture.</p> <p>In the last and lightest room are dark, contrasting paintings from Patrik Kri&scaron;&scaron;&aacute;k. The artworks in this chapter deal with ecological damage and ask of a possible end to the narrative.</p>

<p>Three musicians representing the contemporary generation of composers in Estonia, Latvia and Finland:</p> <p><strong>Kaija&nbsp;Saariaho</strong>&nbsp;&ndash; recipient of an American Grammy Award for best opera, L&rsquo;amour de loin (2011), recipient of the Polar Music Prize (2013), voted the world&rsquo;s greatest living composer in a BBC survey in 2019.</p> <p><strong>Peteris Vasks&nbsp;</strong>&ndash; leading Latvian composer, recipient of numerous awards, an honorary member of the Latvian Academy of Sciences (1994), main composer at the Stockholm New Music Festival (1996), a member of the Royal Swedish Music Academy (2001).</p> <p><strong>Arvo P&auml;rt&nbsp;</strong>&ndash; leading Estonian composer, one of the most frequently played contemporary composers in the world, in 2020 he was awarded the BBVA Foundation Frontiers of Knowledge Award for his contribution to culture.</p>

PKF - Prague Philharmonia / Germany yesterday and today: Stockhausen – Henze – Widmann

<p>Hans Werner Henze&nbsp;and&nbsp;Karlheinz&nbsp;Stockausen&nbsp;are two central figures of 20th century German music and their compositions bookend this evening&rsquo;s music programme. However, the focus will be on the eminent German clarinettist and contemporary composer &ndash;&nbsp;J&ouml;rg Widmann, who performed with the PKF &ndash; Prague Philharmonia as a soloist clarinettist at a concert during the Prague Spring International Music Festival 2021. Today&rsquo;s concert presents J&ouml;rg Widmann as Germany&rsquo;s leading contemporary composer whose works are brought out by erudite publishers and performed by soloists and ensembles across the world.</p>

<p>An alternate date for the concert, which was supposed to take place in February 2021, but due to the coronavirus pandemic we had to postpone it.</p> <p><strong>Mari&aacute;n Lejava (1976)</strong></p> <p>The leading contemporary Slovak conductor and composer&nbsp;Mari&aacute;n Lejava&nbsp;(1976) is a regular guest at the Slovak National Theatre and with the Slovak Philharmonic, and is known mainly in the Czech Republic as a conductor. Today&rsquo;s &lsquo;portrait&rsquo;, however, presents him principally in his second and perhaps even more important role as a composer and dramaturg with a limitless imagination. The concert features two of his world premieres and one Czech premiere. The concert&rsquo;s special guest will be the&nbsp;Slovak violinist&nbsp;Milan&nbsp;Pal&rsquo;a.</p>

PKF - Prague Philharmonia / USA: John Cage – Elliott Carter

<p>The Cycle S 2022/2023 concert season opens in the USA:</p> <p><strong>John Cage&nbsp;</strong>&ndash; a proponent of aleatoric experimental music and lover of art and mycology.<br /> <strong>Elliott Carter&nbsp;</strong>&ndash; graduated in music and English from Harvard University, the focal point of his art was atonal music and his compositions are among some of the most demanding for listeners. He was twice awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Music and won a Grammy Award in 1993.</p> <p>We will introduce the chamber music of Cage and Carter using four compositions from various creative periods of the two composers with substantial time gaps. John Cage wrote Three Pieces for Flute Duet when he was 23, Elliott Carter composed his Oboe Quartet &ndash; for Oboe and String Trio when he was 93.</p>

<p>The Lactism exhibition is a revision of the women&#39;s condition, related to our ecosystem; the project presents a society free of all geopolitical borders. We can do so with help of our utopian religion, founded in Jerusalem. Terms like &bdquo;nation&ldquo; and &bdquo;border&ldquo; with their systematic and economic functionality do not have any relevance for the followers of Lactism.</p> <p>Lactism, a monotheistic religion, worshiping the Lacteria Goddess as the Mother Nature, replaced the patriarchal order, that has for centuries ignored voice of the Nature. It became fourth religion, completing the group of the three most popular monotheistic religions. The Lacteria Goddess was created by a collective of women, that reflects diversity and refers symbolically to the power of individual in the collective. This way, the collective itself becomes the Goddess.</p> <p>The exhibition is designed as fragment of a fictional temple, built for the cult of the Lacteria Goddess. It is a meta-modernistic experiment, rewriting history of the human race. <p>Two women,&nbsp; dancers,&nbsp; both same age, are said to have a remarkable physical resemblance. At first, they have no idea about each other, they just heard that everyone has a double somewhere. Is it possible to find answers through another person? What makes us identify with others and ourselves?</p> <p>- - - - - - - - - -&nbsp;</p> <p>Ondrov&aacute; and Foscarini on a journey between a documentary and an intimate statement, one&#39;s own body and personal experience. In their work, they touch on a topics, such as the female psyche, loneliness, vulnerability, acceptance of the state in which the arts finds itself. Even though they don&#39;t know each other, can they share a bond that transcends geography?</p> <p>In 2020, a Czech-Italian dance project was created - a duet by Tereza Ondrov&aacute; and Francesca Foscarini. Due to the worldwide pandemic, rehearsals are at first postponed, then moved, then done remotely - via the platform Zoom. The first public show was scheduled for the 8th of December that year. A live audience is not possible, so the creators decided to adapt the rehearsal process into a video essay. Subsequently, rehearsals continue. Constant attempts at new ways to survive, adaptations of an adaptation. On the way between a documentary and an intimate statement, one&#39;s own body and personal experience.</p> <p>Thanks to the Czech Dance Platform 2016 award, which was given by Roberto Casarotto (director of dance projects Centro per la Scena Contemporanea di Bassano del Grappa and Operaestate Festival Veneto) for her performance in the production AS LONG AS HOLDING HANDS, Tereza Ondrov&aacute; was able to attend a choreographic research in Bassano del Grappa. This opened a new world for her, where she met with leading personalities of the young Italian dance generation. The artists began to fascinate her mainly with their own studio, their work and their local community, with the local space of the museum, but also with their excellent technique, emotional impact and strong stage presence. After repeated meetings with artists such as Alessandro Sciarroni, Daniele Ninarello, Silvia Gribaudi and Francesca Foscarini, she decided to address two strong female personalities of the contemporary Italian scene to collaborate (Silvia Gribaudi and Francesca Foscarini).</p> <p><strong>Tereza Ondrov&aacute;</strong><br /> Dancer, choreographer, teacher</p> <p>Studied Dance Pedagogy at the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague. In 2004 she co-founded the dance company VerTeDance where she created more than 25 pieces. Since 2012 she has been cooperating with Peter &Scaron;avel. Together they created the duet Boys who like to play with dolls, which was awarded the Amnesty International Freedom of Expression Award (2015), Dance Piece of the Year and Dancers of the Year 2014 in the Czech Republic, nominated by Total Theatre Award Nomination and selected for Priority Companies List 2014 by Aerowaves, and As long as holding hands (2015). Since 2016 she has been working with a director Petra Tejnorov&aacute; (You are here, 2016; Nothing Sad, 2017;&nbsp; LETS&rsquo;S DANCE!, 2017; Hello, Is Anyone Out There?, 2017; SAME SAME, 2018]. As a dancer and interpreter she collaborated with choreographers such as Charlotta &Ouml;fverholm, Karine Ponties, David Zambrano, Anton Ľahk&yacute;. She is also a teacher. Teaches at Theatre Faculty of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague and movement courses for actors of the National Theatre in Prague.</p>

<p>V&yacute;stava Marie &amp; Valent&yacute;na je kolaborativn&iacute; projekt vizu&aacute;ln&iacute;ch umělkyň Marie Luk&aacute;čov&eacute; a Valent&yacute;ny Janů, kter&yacute; rozv&iacute;j&iacute; možnosti vz&aacute;jemn&yacute;ch podobnost&iacute; jejich form&aacute;ln&iacute;ch a koncepčn&iacute;ch př&iacute;stupů. Uměleck&eacute; v&yacute;stupy obou autorek paralelně odkazuj&iacute; k problematice feminismu, emancipace, ekologie a dal&scaron;&iacute;ch společensko-kritick&yacute;m t&eacute;matům. Zpracov&aacute;n&iacute; jejich t&eacute;mat velmi často přeb&iacute;r&aacute; atributy popkulturn&iacute; vizuality. I přesto, že každ&aacute; z umělkyň pracuje se sv&yacute;mi specifick&yacute;mi v&yacute;razov&yacute;mi prostředky jako jsou tanec, hudba, rap či 3D animace, společn&yacute;m jmenovatelem jejich pr&aacute;ce je medium videa, kter&eacute; převl&aacute;d&aacute; uměleck&eacute; praxi obou. Symbi&oacute;za těchto př&iacute;stupů tak slibuje podmaniv&yacute; a siln&yacute; z&aacute;žitek audiovizu&aacute;ln&iacute;ho charakteru.</p> <p>Centr&aacute;ln&iacute;m d&iacute;lem v&yacute;stavy bude dvoukan&aacute;lov&aacute; videoinstalace autorsk&eacute;ho uměleck&eacute;ho filmu. Sn&iacute;mek rozv&iacute;j&iacute; ž&aacute;nr hudebn&iacute;ho videoklipu, prostředitcv&iacute;m kter&eacute;ho umělkyně rozehr&aacute;vaj&iacute; emancipačn&iacute; r&eacute;toriku, spoč&iacute;vaj&iacute;c&iacute; ve verb&aacute;ln&iacute; deklaraci, obrazov&eacute; kompozici, animaci, choreografii a autorsk&eacute;m hudebn&iacute;m tracku. Zmiňovan&eacute; popkulturn&iacute; tendence v&yacute;stavy Marie Luk&aacute;čov&eacute; a Valent&yacute;ny Janů odkazuj&iacute; na čten&iacute; a zpětn&eacute; zobrazen&iacute; pohybu, tance a těl, kter&eacute; skrze skupinovou choreografii demonstruj&iacute; nezř&iacute;zen&yacute; empowerment. Hudebn&iacute; film je př&iacute;mo inspirov&aacute;n estetikou i n&aacute;měty MTV videoklipů z přelomu mil&eacute;nia, ke kter&yacute;m se obě autorky spont&aacute;nně navrac&iacute; a společně se tak pokou&scaron;&iacute; redefinovat jejich obsah.</p>

These are the questions raised by Fairy Queen, a piece created by the contemporary dance company 420PEOPLE and one based on true events and authentic personal material and experience of the performers.<br /> <br /> It is with immense love that we dedicate this piece to our sons and daughters, parents and partners, to all the beloved people who only hear our &ldquo;I love you&rdquo; when the distance has grown too long.<br /> <br /> <strong>The project results from a collaborative initiative of the company 420PEOPLE, the Experimental Space NoD and the music group Zabelov.</strong></p>

<p>NoD&#39;s 20th anniversary</p> <p>NoD&#39;s 8th intervention in public space, which dominates the space above the intersection of Dlouh&aacute; and Rybn&aacute; streets. In his wooden spacial drawing Julius Reichel thematizes the current crisis of &quot;forests&quot; in both local and global contexts. His instalation observes and emphasizes the relationship between the metropolitan blindness and the catastrophic situation happening beyond the borders of cities in the shadow of omnipresent political rhetorics.</p>

<p>On October 26th 2019 it will be exactly 20 years since the first exhibition&nbsp;took place in NoD, which was prepared by a group of creative artists around ROXY music club. The first eponymous exhibition &quot;Visions&quot;&nbsp;was a curatorial project of the&nbsp;already active artist&nbsp;Kri&scaron;tof Kintera.</p> <p>The organic freestyle project&nbsp;<em>A DREAM OF AN EXHIBITION&nbsp;</em>connects all the curators who have&nbsp;been part of Galerie NoD&#39;s direction evolution during the past 20 years of its existence. The gallery&#39;s program used to be curated by Kri&scaron;tof Kintera, Ren&eacute; Rohan, Tamara Moyzes, Zuzana Blochov&aacute;, Jiř&iacute; Pt&aacute;ček, Milan Mikul&aacute;&scaron;t&iacute;k, Jiř&iacute; machalick&yacute; and currently it has been curated by Pavel Kubesa,&nbsp;the art director of Galerie NoD. Along the invited guests (Institute of Anxiety,&nbsp;Marek Meduna, Andr&aacute;s Cs&eacute;falvay, Matou&scaron; Lipus, Kateřina Olivov&aacute;, Marie &Scaron;tindlov&aacute;, Tom&aacute;&scaron; Vaněk, Jana Kalinov&aacute;, Matěj Smetana, Ad&eacute;la Součkov&aacute;, Martin Zet, Petr P&iacute;sař&iacute;k, Tereza Anderlov&aacute;) the curators are creating a rich mosaic of various futurologic messages and comments on todays society, gender politics, environmental crisis and intimate introspections and imaginative visions and unrealized &quot;dreams&nbsp; of exhibitions&quot;. <p>What mechanisms operate a loving relationship of two people separated by thousands of kilometres? How strong the bond has to be to keep us connected to the other person when it&rsquo;s been such a long time since we last smelled their skin, since we held their hand and cuddled in their arms? These are the questions raised by Fairy Queen, a piece created by the contemporary dance company 420PEOPLE and one based on true events and authentic personal material and experience of the performers.<br /> <br /> It is with immense love that we dedicate this piece to our sons and daughters, parents and partners, to all the beloved people who only hear our &ldquo;I love you&rdquo; when the distance has grown too long.<br /> <br /> <strong>The project results from a collaborative initiative of the company 420PEOPLE, the Experimental Space NoD and the music group Zabelov.</strong></p>

HEIMATSCHUSS OR MY GRANDFATHER YOUR GRANDFATHER

<p>&quot;My Grandfather Your Grandfather&rdquo; is a reconstruction of family stories with photos, documents and objects. Stories of Grandfathers who wore uniforms, grandfathers who were beaten, and grandfathers who were beaten by those grandfathers in uniforms. Stories of a man who hid on a couch for years, of a woman who burned passports on the stove. Tales that we were told, and tales where the line between history ends and fiction begins is blurred.</p>

STOLOVÁNÍ/DINING: Igor Hosnedl

<p>Igor Hosnedl (b. 1988), a Czech author living and working in Berlin, is a significant representative of young generation of internationally established painters. His works were exhibited in Down &amp; Ross Gallery in New York, in PS120 in Berlin, in The Brno House of Arts and Fait Gallery, Brno. His show in NoD Gallery is only the third Hosnedl&#39;s solo show in Prague (his former solo shows took place in Jelen&iacute; Gallery and Berl&iacute;nskej model).<br /> <br /> The exhibition Stolov&aacute;n&iacute;/Dining is build on his previous projects (Hundred Liters of Diet Ink in EIGEN+ART Lab in Berlin and Emerald Syrup from the Orchard of Promises in Fait Gallery, Brno). Hosnedl unaffectedly and sensitively observes the archetypal event of dining in its social dimension: as a moment of blending of social decorum and the vulnerability of physical intimacy, as a metaphorical exposure in front of the closest circle or complete strangers, as a choice between the humble temperance and opulent indulgence: as a place where it is worth to succeed.</p>

<p>&quot;<em>The artistic research of Adam Vačkář is going at a pace that, in some respects, is a clear reference to the field of science. However, Vačkář&rsquo;s intuitive approach aims at turning this pace upside down, making it circular and giving the elements that make it up and dictate the rhythm an aura that is sacred and at the same time ambiguous.</em></p> <p><em>Vačkář&rsquo;s works that are featured in this exhibition, in the form of a real terrestrial composition, the simulacrum of a possible future conformation that is irretrievably near and that sees the pollution of the ecosystem as the prevalent aspect, act as a warning signal and proof of a future that is already present.</em></p> <p><em>Perhaps it&rsquo;s this term &ldquo;possible &rdquo; that represents the key to interpreting Vačkářs work. His entire artistic production is made up of mainly elusive constructions that are the result of a mix of industrial waste like plastic, steel and glass together with natural elements like branches or other parts of trees.</em>&quot;</p> <p>Domenico de Chirico, curatorial text excerpt</p>

<p>The next concert of WOWs series will welcome an American singer and songwriter Julia Holter. At the heart of her pristine chamber pop there exist wisdom and a&nbsp;profound poise. Like a&nbsp;deep breath on a&nbsp;subway car, or a&nbsp;private meditation amid a&nbsp;bustling city street, her songs exude an elegant calm, but they do&nbsp;not often stay still. It&rsquo;s not a&nbsp;surprise that she&rsquo;s collaborated even with Jean-Michel Jarre on a&nbsp;song. Having created eight studio albums and two live ones, Julia&rsquo;s passion for art and culture is shown in many actions. In November 2016, she curated her own program during the tenth anniversary edition of&nbsp;Le Guess Who?&nbsp;Festival in Utrecht and the next year, she performed a&nbsp;world premiere of her scoring of the 1928 silent French film&nbsp;The Passion of Joan of Arc.</p>

TRANSGENIC MYTH / Pavel Příkaský

<p>The real and the abstract mix in Pavel Prikasky&rsquo;s pictures like fluids in laboratory solutions, the picture layers simulate the surface of a body or systems of internal material changes. Currents of nutrients flow through the painting, the pictures carry a micro world, hybrid physical bodies appear. He links to current phenomena such as genetic modification or medical practice. He approaches his painting as in growing a culture, like a live tissue, bio-matter.</p>

STANDING, HOLDING A WATERLILY / Radek Brousil

<p>The exhibition Standing, Holding a Waterlily carries on in the artist&acute;s activist approach to major serious subjects, tackling them in ways that tend to give up the programmatic canon of standard interpretations and terminologies, for the sake of a largely emotional and personal, perhaps even somewhat simplistic operational mode. The premise of confronting art with the looming environmental and human catastrophe has over the last few years become increasingly polarized, apart from which, however, it has likewise assumed the contours of a programme, notwithstanding the fact that, as ever, any tangible output has remained at least indeterminate. The straightforward, openminded and well-intentioned position &ndash; up to a point of self-abnegation with which Brousil has invariably treated complex, often virtually intractable problems &ndash; inevitably engenders vulnerability, a condition which a good deal of art production tends to conceal behind irony, theorizing, or formal ploys. However, it is simultaneously also a commentary on the embedded typology of the male artist, on that arogant, self-centered confidence manifesting itself in an unwillingness to communicate anything in an open, explicit manner.</p>

RAFANI ART APARTMENT in the Heart of the City

<p><strong>RAFANI ART APARTMENT in the Heart of the City</strong></p> <p>A newly furnished flat in the heart of old Prague. A unique living space, with culture and entertainment at a stone&#39;s throw from home. The flat is a project mounted by the art collective Rafani, encompassing a month-long period.</p> <p>The flat has a separate bedroom with a twin bed, bedside tables, a wardrobe and a vanity&nbsp;table. The living room is furnished with a sofa and two armchairs offering an ideal angle for watching TV. The dining room is fully furnished to accommodate four guests. Toilet, bathroom and kitchenette are accessible from communal space. The flat is situated on the same floor with a coffee bar and a small theatre hall.</p> <p>The flat is centrally located, in a neighbourhood which has everything you need to get to know Prague, in the proximity of Wenceslas Square, the National Museum, the Vltava river and the main railway station, all of this within a walking distance of just a couple of minutes. Churches and synagogues are just round the corner, as is a Hare Krishna restaurant. Cultural attractions (concerts, parties, theatre, art) wait for you within easy reach in all directions (https://nod.roxy.cz/en). The block containing your flat houses one of the finest restaurants in town serving local food and tank-stored draft Pilsner beer. To savour all of Prague&acute;s delights here, you may well stay within a mere kilometre-wide perimeter. The block&acute;s ground floor is the home of one of Prague&acute;s hippest music clubs.</p> <p><strong><em>Warning: According to a Harvard University research study, the Czechs rank at the top of the EU racial prejudice scale.</em></strong></p> <p>Metro (line B, N&aacute;měst&iacute; Republiky station) and tram stops are located in immediate proximity. The Main Railway Station is just a ten-minute walk away.<br /> You are advised to skip a tour of Prague Castle, as its premises are guarded by the Czech Army.</p> <p>Warning: Beware of excrements! ZABELOV GROUP / Křest alba EG

<p>The wide-ranging concept of jazz, its fascination with rhythmic sequences and abstract vocals, experimenting and the constant need to search for new sounds, as well as the blending of cultures, is the basis of Zabelov Group&rsquo;s approach to music and its presentation.<br /> <br /> Duo Jan &Scaron;ikl and Roman Zabelov have been on the scene together since 2012. The Czech composer and multi-instrumentalist, &Scaron;ikl, graduated from the Prague Conservatory. In addition to playing drums and trumpet in Zabelov Group and the band, Korjen, he writes music for the National Theater, the Czech Radio, the Spitfire Company, and frequently cooperates with the Orchestra Berg.</p>

Blending dancehall, grime and electronica, and with his live shows providing a&nbsp;visual experience like no other, his show on the 30th of October is not one to be missed. Now he presents his debut album, BASIC VOLUME, after captivating listeners with a&nbsp;blistering pair of acclaimed,self-released mixtapes Machine and Security and Warp-released EPs SPAGHETTO and The Spectacular Empire. Besides his audio-visual shows he presents his opinions and ideas in writing and sculptures too, not being afraid of criticising the system, police or government. The sextet around songwriter Bert Dockx surrounds you with bitter post-rock and nocturnal folk. Imagine a&nbsp;midnight walk through a&nbsp;dark forest. It can be ominous yet unbearably serene. Through the years, the Antwerp based band have developed a&nbsp;rich, organic sound that is theirs only.&nbsp;<em>Rooms / Ruins</em>, their fifth album, is a&nbsp;capricious, vibrant and strange affair that will send you inwards before catapulting you into space. The Telescope / Tim Spooner

<p>The Telescope&nbsp;underwent a traumatic relocation and its lenses and mirrors became hopelessly rearranged. It was impossible to tell anymore whether the view through the telescope was of the surface of a distant planet or a microscopic reflection of the interior of the viewer&rsquo;s own eye. Nevertheless this new world was studied and documented thoroughly.</p> <p>The Telescope&nbsp;looks through a broken telescope at a world which responds to being watched, a reflection of the watcher. A series of magnetic and chemical events are enacted under a microscope camera and presented live as a documentary account of an uncertain landscape.</p> <p><strong>Created and performed by Tim Spooner<br /> Produced by Ania Obolewicz/Artsadmin</strong></p>

<p>The Telescope&nbsp;underwent a traumatic relocation and its lenses and mirrors became hopelessly rearranged. It was impossible to tell anymore whether the view through the telescope was of the surface of a distant planet or a microscopic reflection of the interior of the viewer&rsquo;s own eye. Nevertheless this new world was studied and documented thoroughly.</p> <p>The Telescope&nbsp;looks through a broken telescope at a world which responds to being watched, a reflection of the watcher. <p>A series of concerts WOWs &ndash; Wonderwomen Save You will make its return to NoD with Kelly Lee Owens among others this autumn. The 28 year old musician will perform bits from her self-titled debut album she has made overflowing with experiments in electronic music that oscillate between cavernous techno, dreamy pop and krautrock rhythms. Despite her brief career, you most likely have already heard her voice and contributions on Daniel Avery&rsquo;s album&nbsp;<em>Drone Logic</em>&nbsp;that was released in 2013. Besides that, she&rsquo;s worked with names like St. Vincent or Jenny Hval. And that is just a&nbsp;beginning. Kelly Lee Owens will make her Czech debut on 6/11 at NoD. Last year, this 28-year-old German songwriter followed it with a&nbsp;proper album called Aerial Perspective. <p>Singer-songwriter from Memphis Julien Baker is coming to Prague for the first time. Her tender voice will resonate through&nbsp;NoD on September 14th 2018. A&nbsp;country singer Becca Mancari to open the evening.&nbsp;</p> <p>Twenty&nbsp;two year&nbsp;old singer and guitarist Julien Baker started making music at the university with her band&nbsp;Forrister. She started playing solo in 2015 when releasing her debut album&nbsp;<em>Sprained Ankle</em>. It was a&nbsp;collection of humbly rendered&nbsp;folk&nbsp;songs, dealing with the topics of depression, substance abuse and also a crisis of faith, since Baker claims to be Christian. During her short career, she opened for bands and musicians like Death Cab For Cutie, Conor Obers or Belle &amp; Sebastian. In 2017, she got signed&nbsp;by Matador Records (Cat Power, Interpol, Pavement, Yo La Tengo) and released her second album&nbsp;<em>Turn Out The Lights</em>. The album is&nbsp;more expansive in sound and vision but&nbsp;the real draw is Baker&#39;s&nbsp;songwriting and lyricism.&nbsp;The result finds Baker narrating a deliberate meditation on how we each try to deal with our ever-shifting mental health, and the impact this can have on both ourselves and others. The album sets out to address how the process of coping with internal conflicts affects different relationships &ndash; romantic, familial, and friendly. Baker turns outward to embrace the challenges of the human experience, weaving personal struggles together into one surprisingly hopeful chorus.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Franti&scaron;ek Pech&aacute;ček is one of the most significant personalities of the Czech visual scene. He specializes in 2D and 3D graphics - animation, creation of a generated virtual environment. His specialties include video projection and video mapping of buildings and environments. He participates in the creation of a visual on the scene of theater performances at the National Theater. He has also collaborated on video projections of productions at the Theater in Vinohrady in Prague, the Moravian-Silesian National Theater in Ostrava or the Vigszinhasz Comedy theater in Budapest.&nbsp;</p>

Anna Hulačová & Jana Vojnárová: Parallel Greetings

<p>The exhibition <em>Parallel Greetings </em>is centered around communication between two different media, and between two women artists linked together by an immanent thematic bond which works as an entrance gate to the penetration of one of their two worlds by the other, and vice versa. The process of physical symbiosis between sculpture and painting evolves here within the characteristic space of the show&acute;s architectural layout which reaches beyond the traditional gallery space, extending it lengthwise, and wherein a museum-style &ldquo;aquarium&rdquo; enclosure invites to a game of co-existing parallel worlds or variants of their potential states. The exhibition&acute;s layout is instrumental in evoking diverse impressions bordering on the world of science fiction: the communication and interpenetration of the two artists&acute; works points to straightforward suggestions of entrance into alternative temporal or spacial dimensions, parallel worlds or whole universes which give birth to various physical mutations of commonly shared material. This two-way <em>Odyssey</em> should be read in terms&nbsp;of a guide of an elusive past and a record of an imposed future.</p>

THE IMPRO BIG BAND (Omar Argentino Galvan feat. IMPROvariace)

<p>&ldquo;Sound painting&rdquo; is a sign language used for composing scenes (combining different art disciplines) in real time performances. &ldquo;Sound painting&rdquo; was created by <em>Walter Thompson</em> and has been spread around the world. THE IMPROV BIG BAND was later derived from the original <em>Thompson&rsquo;s</em> format and has already been performed with an absolute success in Mexico, Reunion Island, Puerto Rico, Spain, etc. THE IMPROV BIG BAND is a new way to play with different artistic forms (music, poetry, dance, etc.).</p> <p>In October 2017 <strong>Omar Argentino Galvan</strong> (an improviser and a teacher of sound painting technique) will be visiting Prague with his special show. He will be training a local theatre improv group IMPROvariace for several days and this workshop will lead to a first live performance of THE IMPROV BIG BAND in the Czech Republic.</p> <p><strong>THE IMPRO BIG BAND live show will take place at Theatre NoD (Dlouh&aacute; 33, Prague 1) on Sunday October 8, 7:30 PM.&nbsp; Tickets will be available via GoOut. <p><strong>In Prague and Krakow on August 7th, 2017 </strong></p> <p><strong>&ldquo;We went to elementary school when Kinder eggs from St. Nicholas were a rarity and going to McDonalds&lsquo; only a treat at the end of the school year. Colorful artefacts of a burgeoning capitalism, whose definition we began to grasp only a decade later, caused us states of excited trance. We would collect joghurt cups, chewing gum tattoos and Pogs.</strong></p> <p><strong>And today? Today we&rsquo;re hungover. We gorge on things, information, emotions, we gulp down data and swallow everything available, in plastic or not... and we&rsquo;re having a hard time digesting. Like a generation of </strong><strong>,</strong><strong>unaware bulimics we constantly and intuitively have to filter it all, so as not to get lost under the trash calamity. The wrong kind of hangover pulsates in our heads, the one that brings spleen and nostalgia, as if after a big party full of drinks and cocktail umbrellas.&ldquo;</strong></p> <p>-------</p> <p>The Bulimia Cocktail Party exhibition will for the very first time present the artistic collaboration of two artists of the upcoming generation of Polish and Czech art scenes, which naturally converge due to similar sociocultural backgrounds: Juliana H&ouml;schlov&aacute; (CZ) and Marta Antoniak (PL).</p> <p>Juliana H&ouml;schlov&aacute; (*1987), a graduate of Prague&rsquo;s Academy of Fine Arts, is known in the Czech environment through her intense performances, engaged conceptual drawings and videoart, through which in the recent years she undertakes a criticism of mass culture, the mechanisms of consumer society and image manipulation. As part of preparations for the Bulimia Cocktail Party exhibition, Juliana organized a collection of plastic bags, which were then smudged and conjoined into a monumental abstract painting. The collecting of the bags was made difficult by the fact that it took place in Juliana&rsquo;s temporary place of work in the &ldquo;deplastifying&ldquo; Austria, so most of the bags traveled from the Czech Republic. The exhibition is accompanied by a story from a dystopic world &ndash; from &ldquo;Whiteland&ldquo;, where flows a black river of oil and people buckle under the weight of their own bellies. Juliana H&ouml;schlov&aacute; mediates the story by means of simple illustrations projected in the gallery through overhead projectors.</p> <p>Marta Antoniak (*1986) is a painter and has recently received her doctorate at the Krakow Academy of Fine Arts. The pieces presented represent Marta as an artist closely examining her medium, which has in the recent years taken on the form of a unique relief. Through melted plastic toys and chewing gum tattoos she creates pleasing yet unsettling assemblages bordering with kitsch. Her relief-paintings often represent parasites spreading under human skin, which upon observation awaken a tingling body feeling: they tempt the observer into a manual exploration of themselves.</p> <p><br /> Juliana and Marta&rsquo;s joint exhibit is formed from the belief that their formal expressions can create a strong visual experience together. On another level, the exhibition reflects the nostalgia of a generation raised in the nineties in post-communist countries, when the pitfalls of a consumer culture seemed as distant as the world of adults and the currently suffusing feeling of hypersaturation and the fear of its ecological impact.</p> <p><em>Note: Juaiana H&ouml;schlov&aacute; collected 246 plastic bags. Jan Pfeiffer: Two Rules for One Thing

<p>Jan Pfeiffer has established himself as an artist working with diverse formats of creating complex signal situations thematizing different semantic contexts. His works abound in historical, mythological, religious and cultural connotations of both specific sites and purely abstract, even anthropological archetypal motifs. Pfeiffer&acute;s visual morphology elaborates the semantic options offered by various sets of basic geometric shapes and develops them in a process aimed at unfolding their broader interpretational potential and a dramatization of symbolic narratives. A common denominator of Pfeiffer&acute;s output is a shared, characteristic mood, an externalized individual sensitivity which determines the nature and language of his approach to individual subjects. Pfeiffer&acute;s narratives thus induce the feeling of a seemingly gentle yet at the same time firm handshake, a physical contact straddling in terms of effect the borderline between a tender stroke and the act of moulding of material, either sculptural or human, represented by spectators.</p>

<p>This exhibition features works by two painters who have known each other since the time of their studies at the Ostrava University, and who have been close for many years now &ndash; not just personally, but also as regards their approaches to painting, characterized by sensitive reflection of the world around us, with its rapidly changing environment and lifestyles, taking in the fluidity of the system of values to which society is committed and of the developments which shape it. All this said, it should be noted that each of these two artists has evolved a distinctive idiom of their own, a typical handwriting discernible at first sight. Thus each has arrived at a thoroughly individual philosophy and an inimitable perspective of contemporary reality.</p>

<p>One of the most obvious elements of &Scaron;těp&aacute;n Kub&iacute;k&rsquo;s latest work,&nbsp;<em>SCN GRP</em>, is a moving dot, which traces its white path over a black background. It&rsquo;s so elementary that it cannot be narrowed further. It moves without beginning or end across the gallery&rsquo;s four walls, like a never-endingly emerging narrative, and generates a reflection on geometrical forms &ndash; triangles, squares and circles &ndash; that the white tail seeks to complete.&nbsp;</p>

Daniel Vlček: Through the eye of mechanical reproduction

<p>Daniel Vlček is interested in the link between artistic representation and industrial production and the relationship between sound and its visual expression. Certain formats in his body of work have been adapted from forms of industry, a fact attested to by his consistent work with loops and repeated motifs. Originally it was the vinyl records he used as a DJ that defined the character of his paintings, works representing a specific template into which memory has been recorded. It was here that Vlček first tried to carry over musical elements onto the canvas, capturing musical practices via visual and artistic formats. At the same time, this work was based on the visualization of sound that had been the inspiration behind his drawings and paintings. In an almost constructivist way, he had attempted to ward off the surface while recording the rhythm found in the passing of time. This intention can be expressed as a spiral, the visual structure behind the principle of phonograph records. Vlček&rsquo;s repeated motions based on a template are an intentionally mechanical method often resulting in abstract structures. This end result subverts the usual consequences of mechanical reproduction and draws attention to the true&nbsp;<em>non-mechanical</em>&nbsp;nature of Vlček&rsquo;s practice.</p>

<p>The term &quot;Hic sunt dracones&quot; (here be dragons) was used by some ancient cartographers to denote the unknown territory that has not been maped or discovered. They labeled places that are on the horizon of our known world. Areas on the edge of the map during all times becomes a projection screen of our fantasies, discovery obsessions, fears from unknown beings and condensed mythological ideas.</p> <p>Pavel Karafi&aacute;t creates digital realtime 3D graphics using generative parametric procedures and manual work. <p>NIE have made our own movable museum building. Made up out of 70 m2 of rusty drawers. Inside this room five people reconstructs a life that has ended. Two brothers, a neighbour, a teacher and a lover. With warmth, humour and music, they tell stories about the one they have lost. A brother, a student, a neighbour boy, the first love.</p> <p>Minutes, maybe hours of your own existence that you have forgotten, but I remember. You live a secret life in an other person&rsquo;s memory. Tor Ulven</p> <p>The audience are sitting close together inside the intimate venue, that resembles an archive, and experiencing the actors and stories closely. After the show opens drawers in the archive, and turns into a small museum, a room for reflection with different sensory experiences that can awaken associations for our own lives and own memories.</p> <p>This project is exploring true stories and accounts from people that have experienced suicide in their family. The project is a movable installation that is both an exhibition space and a space for the performance. The show opened on the 27th April 2012 on Tulinl&oslash;kka, between The National Museum and The National Gallery in the heart of Oslo. The show is now touring both in Norway and internationally.</p>

Tor Ulven</p> <p>The audience are sitting close together inside the intimate venue, that resembles an archive, and experiencing the actors and stories closely. After the show opens drawers in the archive, and turns into a small museum, a room for reflection with different sensory experiences that can awaken associations for our own lives and own memories.</p> <p>This project is exploring true stories and accounts from people that have experienced suicide in their family. The project is a movable installation that is both an exhibition space and a space for the performance. The show opened on the 27th April 2012 on Tulinl&oslash;kka, between The National Museum and The National Gallery in the heart of Oslo. The show is now touring both in Norway and internationally.</p>

How strong the bond has to be to keep us connected to the other person when it&rsquo;s been such a long time since we last smelled their skin, since we held their hand and cuddled in their arms? These are the questions raised by Fairy Queen, a piece created by the contemporary dance company 420PEOPLE and one based on true events and authentic personal material and experience of the performers.<br /> <br /> It is with immense love that we dedicate this piece to our sons and daughters, parents and partners, to all the beloved people who only hear our &ldquo;I love you&rdquo; when the distance has grown too long.<br /> <br /> <strong>The project results from a collaborative initiative of the company 420PEOPLE, the Experimental Space NoD and the music group Zabelov.</strong></p>

<p>Either the world is heading into dark tomorrows, or perhaps we may &nbsp;only be indulging in an exciting catastrophic fiction. We may either manage to extricate ourselves from the grip of that virtual anaconda, or it may prove to be enough if we just loosen our belts? Are these sleeve covers real, or a somewhat more powerful influx of metainformation? Is this text written by a human, or have I bought new shoes?&nbsp;</p> <p>The project Everything&acute;s Gonna Be Alright 3 is based on works Click by Click (web application, 2015) and Everything&acute;s Gonna Be Alright 1 and 2 (2015, 2016). Tejml works with 3D animation, internet application (web design) and video games environment with its rules. Author creates 3D virtual world, which is typical for computer video games and it evolves at 360&deg; panoramic video projection.</p>

<p>This project for Video NoD Gallery takes you through the large-scale projections to the exotic surroundings of Vietnam and Bali.</p> <p>The romantic vision of paradise is disappearing in confrontation with an authentic footage from travels tempting destinations.</p> <p>Jan Vyčichlo studied Audiovisual Arts at Tomas Bata University in Zlin, Faculty of Multimedia Communications Department. He specializes on camera (shooting) and audio and cut postproduction.&nbsp;</p>

Tomáš Predka & David Postl: A Man Who Didn´t Take Himself Too Seriously

<p>Both up-and-coming distinctive figures on the contemporary art scene, Tom&aacute;&scaron; Predka and David Postl met in the studio of experimental painting headed by the widely respected artist, Daniel Richter, at Vienna&acute;s Akademie der bildenden K&uuml;nste, where they were acquainted with some of the currently most relevant and critical approaches to the medium of painting. Their works oscillate around the borderlines between painting, collage and decollage, evoking the Czech tradition established there by Kol&aacute;ř or &Scaron;tyrsk&yacute;, as well as the media of printmaking, drawing, and calligraphy. Reaching beyond mere adherence to the concept of visuality codified in the course of the history of modern art, they further enrich it by individual elements including the use of the latest new materials and techniques such as pasting up reflective foils or application of silk paper, pigments and paints onto canvas. Thereby, both artists create unorthodox, materially innovative paintings, assigning attractive novel outlines to a discipline that can be described as contemporary nonfigurative painting.</p>
